A diverse media industry creates stronger, more representative journalism. The George Viner Memorial Fund, established by the National Union of Journalists in 1986, works to increase diversity in the media industry by supporting aspiring Black and minority ethnic journalists.
The fund helps cover study and subsistence, the fund helps to remove financial barriers and opens pathways into journalism. More than 150 black and minority students have received support to gain the training needed to launch successful media careers.
George Viner scholars also benefit from mentoring, networking opportunities, and access to the wider NUJ community. With the continued support of NUJ members, patrons and donors, the fund is helping to build a media industry that better reflects the communities it serves.
The deadline to apply is the 31st of July.
